How did you become a work at home mom?
This is a question that so many people ask work at home moms everyday.
Before I became a stay at home mom I worked in the Human Resources department at a large university. After my first son was born, I decided that I absolutely could not go back to a job outside the home. So I went back to college to get a Master's Degree instead. In August of last year I had to do a project in one of my grad school classes that involved creating a website and that is how my first siteContests For Moms was created. Since then I own 2 more sites for moms and another site for parenting and smart babies is on the way - OurSmartBaby.com
How did you become a work at home mom? What did you do before you were a work at home mom? What kind of work at home mom are you?
I'd love to hear from some of you out there. I'd like to know that at least one person is reading what I am writing..lol!

Hey Amanda!
Well I am reading your blog ;)
How did you become a work at home mom?
Hmm. I started doing some mystery shopping when my oldest was a baby. It was fun and a little extra spending cash. Then I got into eBaying. I could buy name brand things...kid's clothes, nice books, etc and sell them for a profit on eBay.
Then I got into Network Marketing, and after struggling to do that with 3 kids in tow, I took my business online, and things have blossomed!!
What did you do before you were a work at home mom?
I worked at Starbucks until a few days before my oldest was born ;)
Before that I was a bank teller. I like money and coffee...hmm, not much has changed!
What kind of work at home mom are you?
My primary source of income is my network marketing business. Then I earn a little extra with advertising on my site, and I also plan offline Expos.
:)
Hi Amanda,
Great questions. I became a work-at-home by trial and error. I did many things including selling real estate, freelancing with newly growing online companies, etc. As I found some success, I created a website to offer help to others based on experience not just theory. As the internet grew and affiliate programs developed, I began to add those to my site but only if I had actually used the products or services. When the dot-com problems happened and much of my affiliate income dropped, I did start telecommuting as a social worker but I knew I wanted a home business and I wanted residual income. So in 2002 I started a business in referral marketing. Today, I run 3 websites (http://www.workathomesuccess.com, http://www.momsathomesuccess.com, http://www.jobsathomesuccess.com) and still do some part-time telecomuting, as well as my home business.
Before working at home, I was a social worker working in schools and eventually in public health.
I'm a busy work-at-home mom who is looking at ways to streamline my life. I'm attached to my websites, I enjoy working in adoption, and my home business is what is not only making me money now but will pay for the kids college and my retirement. So its a struggle to be organized and a good mom.
BTW...I'm writing a second book about moms making money online. I'd love for you and your readers to share your experiences. You can learn more at http://www.workathomesuccess.com/onlineincomeprofile.htm
Thanks for a fun blog....
