Fingernail Cutting Battles with Baby and 4 year old

That face isnt so cute during fingernail/toenail clipping time!

My two boys act like they are terrified of the fingernail clippers. My 4 year old literally takes "fits" when I go near him and tell him it is time to clip his nails! I finally have to bribe him into cutting them or else he would let them get so long he'd look like a wicked witch! The baby just squirms while I cut his and he is still young enough to where I can kind of hold him still while I clip them. It's a struggle every time it is nail clipping time in our house.

Why are they so terrified? Since when does nail clipping hurt?

I don't get it either. My son (15 months) HATES it and fights us all the way. I was hoping he would grow out of it soon, but since you're 4 year old still hates it I'm not so hopeful ;)

My oldest is just getting used to it. He doesn't like his toenails being trimmed though. With the baby, I do it while he is eating a bottle. Thanks for the coment Amanda. I like boys, but I still really want a girl!

It's was just the opposite at my house. My daughter is now 4 and my son is 6 and they both bring me the clippers.

Even at a younger age they both sat in a trance just watching me clip and peel. I guess I was just lucky.

My sister used to bribe her two with jelly beans...lol! Good luck it does get better.

I just happened onto your site and read this posting. I teach 1st grade in AZ. Research is showing that children that say it hurts when you cut their hair or nails may have a sensory issue. This might be something to look into. There are many resources available and it would also help his teacher when he reaches grade school :)
