Should SAHMS dress up before their husbands get home?

This question was posed on a message board that I belong to recently. Should stay at home moms dress up before their husbands get home? In all honesty, I personally think it is a ridiculous question to even be asking.(No offense, really) Who has time to do this?

If you are a SAHM (Stay-at-Home-Mom), at what point during your day would you have time to shower, get dressed up nice, style your hair and apply makeup? That one is beyond me. I can't do it. So, correct me if I am wrong. Is there time or need during the day to be doing this if you stay home to take care of the kids?

I mean I don't look like a complete disaster or stink during the day but I don't have any extra time to do most of the stuff mentioned above either. I usually wear jogging pants, t-shirt, and flipflops with my hair pulled back in a ponytail and no makeup.

If the roles were reversed, do you think your husband would get dressed up for you?

Why do some of us feel the need to do this? Is it about self- confidence? Help me out here!

...Or maybe I'm just a simple girl in my own little world...

WEll I think people should look nice. But like I wrote on the boards...you can wear jogging pants and a tank top and look cute. I mean look at the girls on the workout videos. I don't do my hair all up and wear really nice clothes. Yesterday I was dressed up but I had a busy day and had alot of people coming ang going. Today I am not even bringing my son to school so I am wearing jeans and a casual top. I usually dress up on Friday's though because we are spontaneous people and tend to jump up last minute to do things on the weekends. And yes I am self concious so I always try to look CUTE not so much dressed up and nice. But I wear my hair in a ponytail and wear cotton pants all the time.

Hey I think the jogging pants, tee shirt, flipflop outfit should be the sahm official uniform for our career at this time. I save the makeup, nice clothes for a nite out, so I can truely feel like an attractive woman at that time. Whom really wants their nice clothes full of spitup, spit out tylenol, banana and fruit snack globs all over them. Hmm not me. Go with your style, and your hubby should back you up, and love you for just being you as a wife, and a mommy. Woman whom think all that girly crap is what makes your man go wild, really need to take a step back, and realize what their relationship is based on. Sorry about my soapbox comment.

I'm interested to know one thing:

The person who is posing the question, is she really unsure as to what the answer should be?

I mean if you want to, great! If you feel you need to, there are probably some self-esteem issues there. And if you are unsure and asking other for their opinion, then I'm pretty sure it goes much deeper than low self-esteem.

I apologize up front for not understanding these types of people and would welcome some insight. I just don't understand those who need to have all the answers given to them - by strangers/friends/family - to questions they should be answering themselves, especially when the answers seem so obvious.

I have a girlfriend who has been like this all her life and I thought for sure now that we are older that she would grow out of it. I was wrong. Now I have to listen to her ask similar questions and try not to allow my head to explode. After 20 years of the same crap it is difficult to remain patient.

Wow, didn't realize that would turn itno a vent. So sorry!

Here, here, Barbara. My kid has the rotovirus and I was on my third outfit by 1 pm today (she is on her fourth). I am the official house snot rag, and it's amazing how many food items get smeared all over me on a daily basis.

I, too, rarely get dressed up unless we go out somewhere. Dressed up at other times means my cleanest pair of jeans that actually fit and a climate-appropriate top.

And besides, as soon as he gets home he changes out of his uniform, keeps his brown t-shirt on, and slaps on a pair of sweats. Not sure what good it would do me to dress up for that (not that I'm complaining. We're comfortable and happy, and that's what counts!) He's never complained or indicated he gave a flip, so I wear whatever works for the day.

I'm a tshirt and shorts type of girl. No make up and hair always up! If we are going out, then I try to look nice but not to just stay home.

Crissy... well said. And yeah totally. It's all personal. I'm a total micro tee whore. LOLOL... I love my tees that have rad sayings or cool prints. I love LOVE my jeans and miss them so when I'm preggo. I like being comfortably cute and that's how jeans and tee shirts make me feel. I usually walk every day for many miles and I don't have time to "spruce" up after but I really like my work out clothes and I think they're cute LOLOLOL.... as for showering, for me, that's a must every day but um... plenty of days the hair just goes in a twist back because I just dont want to dry it!

I love that my hubby's eyes light up whether I'm chillin' or dazzled.

And like Crissy said, why does someone need validation? Some do like to dress up and that's fine. Isn't it personal???? I have my style and it's me. Isn't that what we should all have?

Amanda, I love how you like being you. :) It rocks.

Take care,
Kdubs

When my hub leaves for work I am usually wearing work out clothes, but it's just because I run while the kidlets are at preschool. After I am done I take a shower and usually wear jeans or whatever, and maybe do some makeup. The makeup is more for me than anything else, makes me feel more like a part of the world. I'm sure my neighbors think I am changing for D to get home, but it's really just part of my routine. If it was something he expected, well, he would probably just have to keep on expecting it.

Holy crap, no way!

I'm not a SAHM, but I don't expect my husband to come home from work and look nice for me, and he doesn't expect me to get dressed up for him. We get dressed up together for special occasions, but at home, comfort is the rule.

I have a friend who can't leave the house or let her guy see her without makeup and her hair done. I consider that sad.

I have a friend like that too and it actually gets on my nerves. Like I said....I don't think people need to curl their hair and wear a dressy shirt to be cute. I get whistled at when I am wearing jeans and a tank top. It's kinda about the way you look more than the way you dress. She always has something to say when my hair is strait or pulled up and I just want to tell her....well you dress up everyday and put on makeup and do your hair and it doesn't really change anything. I am still much prettier..LOL. GOSH! Why am I so rude this week???

Nah. lol. Hell even when I worked outside the home - as soon as I came home I'd get out of my dress clothes and into my comfy clothes. Just like hubby does.

We dress up when we are going out so it's not like we never see each other looking dressed to the nines.

Nell

PS
even when we were dating I wouldnt dress up all the time. If we were just going to hang out at his home I'd just wear something comfortable. He knew what he was getting from the get go - as I did with him ;)

I am totally a causal person. However since becoming a sahm, I have more of an effort to look nice. Not just for my husband, but for my daughter and myself. I had a job to validate me before, now I am a role model for my daughter. I am not saying she needs to look nice, however taking pride in ones self is never a bad thing. I still dress causally, however I am making the effort to make sure it is a fun, styling causal!

It's all about atttitude. If you feel good, pretty, confident, sexy...... then you will appear this way to your husband. I'm all over the board on this one. Some days I don't even get out of my PJ's, some days it's sweats or jeans and other days (if I'm feeling fliratious) I'll dress up a little for him. *wink* But it's really about how you feel about yourself.

Oh how delightful! Some more braindead zombie masquerading as people who have something intelligent to say simply because your ovaries shat out some ova and you felt lucky enough to have some hot sweaty ape want to stick his cock in your putrid little vaginas. Wow..so let me get this right...because you shat out your little wormy offspring in front of a room full of doctors and nurses and you got all incontinent during the process and you soiled yourself repeatedly, now somehow that gives you the right to have opinions?
Who do you think you are again?
You are the rejects of society. Nobody wants you. Nobody likes you. You are your children's servants. and your husband's fucktoys. Now shut your mouths and learns to open them only when Dh wants a blowjob. Oh and learn to take a cock up your asses. Your ugly vaginas are too stretched out to be attractive to your husbands anyway. The only thing that's even going to be remotely sexy about your are your slutty anuses. SO learn also to shut up and spread those asscheeks wide while your husbands fuck you in the butt while he fantasizes about fucking his younger hotter childless co-workers.
