Leaving Children In Hot Cars..

I was reading the local news today and came across a heartbreaking story of an 18 month old who had died of heat exhaustion in a car. My heart goes out to this family and to any familiy that has experienced a loss of a child. I cannot even begin to imagine the pain. It's hard enough to even read the stories or watch the news, and when I do I hold my children close. It is these things that get to me.

Seventeen children have died this summer by being left in a hot car. I truly do not understand this. I don't understand how a parent could forget their child in a hot car. I know we all forget things and we all make mistakes but how can you forget your child? I have made many mistakes in my life and I forget things constantly but the reason that I forget the OTHER things is because I'm always thinking of my two boys first. They are always first.

I'm not sure what else to say.

I don't understand why some parents can be so stupid as to leave their children in the car under the hot sun like that! It's so irresponsible of them!!!

That is absolutely HORRIBLE and SAD.

You need to have a license to catch a fish, but any idiot can be a parent :(

I am not sure I understand it either. I was with my mom's group and a lady shut off her car and stood outside proclaiming how hot it was...and her toddler was left in the back seat while she talked on the PHONE?!?!

I went over and opened the door, she looked over at me like wth? I was just said "I would hate to watch as your son DIED in the hot car!" It was like 110 F out!

Idiots.

It is sad. Not long ago a daycare worker here left a child in a hot van and the child died. This is when the temp was 107. She then moved the child to a park and acted like the child passed out at the park. The child had already been dead for 2 hours. He was 4. That is why I don't leave my kids at daycare!

I don't and won't EVER understand how this happens. How dare you grab your purse and keys before your child.

:(

It is just horribly sad. I was just thinking about that exact thing this week as the heat index hit 107 and the babe and I were running errands.

I am super aware of that and no matter how annoying it is to get the kids out of the car seats I always take them out of the car when running errands.

I could never wrap my brain around how that could happen either.

HELLLLOOOOOO? It's 300,000 degrees outside. What the hell are they thinking?

Seriously blows my mind...

Poor kids.

It's kind of like kids drowning in bathtubs. Despite all the media attention, people are just stupid. Sometimes I think parents secretly wish their child was gone and their subconscious mind goes into action to make it so.

I also often forget things, but my children aren't part of that list. Like you, I have them on my mind constantly. Even when they aren't with me, I'm looking for them.

Aurelia, your comment "How dare you grab your purse and keys before your child." brought tears to my eyes. It sums up this tragedy so succinctly.

Priorities, people. Get back your stinking priorities.
