Young Lookin' Mamma
After the disastrous soccer game yesterday evening we took the kids to get an ice cream. Well, actually the hubs was the one who wanted the ice cream.
Anyway, as the lady was handing the hubs the ice cream she looked directly at me and said, "Oh. Is that too big? Would you like a smaller one?" And I could do nothing but burst out laughing and then she said to the hubs, "Well I saw how your daughter was looking at the cone and I thought maybe she wanted a smaller one". And here I was looking around thinking where's our daughter? Oh, right, we don't HAVE a daughter. You, lady, are talking about ME. I'm the mommy. The hubs was kind of in shock from embarassment even though he said he wasn't. He just told her no and we drove off all the while I was laughing.
I've said this before and I'll say it again. Do I really look that young? Does the hubs look that old? WTF people? And I think that is what brought on the discussion of why we have got to get out of KY. That and all the freakin uneducated/unaware/ non-involved parents running around here.

You do look young, but not THAT young sheesh. And no, from what I have seen hubby doesn't look that old. You should have said," Can I have a bib to go with that grandma?" Sorry, that was mean. Anyway, I think anywhere that you go, you will find parents like that. Some people just don't care. They think as long as you feed, clothe and have a roof, you are a good parent. Sad, but true.
Hey. I know there will be parents like this wherever we go but I'm hoping that I wont stick out as much in a bigger city area. LOL.
You do look young! That's so funny.
You do look young, but not young enough to be his daughter (at least not according to Flickr)... oh well, in the long run, it is a good thing!
I completely understand the frustration, I get asked all the time if I want a kids menu. Being in a bigger city does make a difference. When I had my first baby we were living in Minot ND and I used to get a lot of dirty looks from people there, once we moved to Seattle that all stopped.
Hey, don't knock it! One day you'll be wishing for those days. I know I am now.
My husband's Dad looks young and people would often refer to him as his wife's son....he would tease her so bad for looking old!
Wow. That would tick me off. I don't get comments like that, but people don't believe I am a mom and it gets to me. Anyway, you are better than me laughing it off cause I would have set that woman strait!
Tasha, it didnt make me mad that she said that BUT it just made me think "WOW" and the uncontrollable laughter ensued...
Here I am worrying about turning 30 and looking older and someone thinks I'm my husband's daughter. I look at myself and can't see it.
Embrace it lady! LOL There will come a day when you LOVE people saying you look so young!
I concure, embrace it!
I'm also one of those younger looking moms, but that's probably more likely because I don't act my age and I do stupid things like get piercings and tattoos and dye my hair obnoxious colors from time to time. In the early days of my twenties I was almost offended if I ever got carded." WTF? Of course I'm of age!!" But now that I'm in my 30's it's the opposite. I get offended if I'm not carded. "WTF? You mean, I look of age?!" (lol)
My husband who is 3 years younger than me gets carded more often that I do and you can bet I'm relishing in that one!
you do look young imo BUT your hubby doesnt look old!!!
I'll be posting some pics later that make me look older...LOL..or atleast hopefully make me look closer to my age of 30 in less than 2 weeks. Yikes!
That is too funny.
I used to get that too. People looking at me like I was a teenage mom.
You do look young, but not THAT young. People can be so stupid.
I got confused for a High Schooler so don't feel too bad. At least you will look young when you are really old and won't have to resort to wrinkle creams and the like.
You look young, but so does your hubby. When people tell me I'm younger than I am, I just say "Why Thank You." :)
Once when I was a senior in high school someone thought my dad and I were married. Never did ask if it was because he looked so young or I looked old! LOL
Take it as a compliment
I just stumbled upon this thread. I know a lot of people say "Take it as a compliment" or you will like it when you get older but thats awhile away. I am not a mother yet but I know my hubby and I will try within a year or so. I'll be 27 but usually get mistaken for a high schooler or young college student...my biggest fear is that ppl will give me that death/ teenage mom stare and I'll go bat/monkey crazy on them! How did you deal with that?
Yeah It's happened to me before but not in a long while. When I am in my skinny pants I get it more then when I am in my fat pants! Being 4'11 doesn't help much.
ha, i have the same problem. usually they ask me if i'm babysitting. when we're out with my mom, they think SHE's mommy and i'm big sister!
I think it is quite a compliment to be such a young looking mom. I am almost 23 but I look like I could be 15!! We'll be happy about this uniquness when we are in our 50's!
