Homeschooling and Working At Home?

Am I crazy? We've finally made the decision to homeschool. We are actually starting "unofficial" home school tomorow...kind of a trial run to see how well it goes with our soon to be 6 year old son. He understands what homeschool means and tells us that is what he wants but I dont think he understands that he can't continue to play xbox all day long like he has done for the past month.

The xbox craze started about 1 month ago and he wants to beat every game he sees without moving for 5 hours straight and he's only 5 years old. Maybe I should buy that Playstation Nation book? Whaddya think? Anyone read it? Opinions about their focus or research?

If anyone has any tips on homeschooling or what style has worked for you/your kids especially if you are also a WAHM, I would love to hear from you. Actually, I'd love to hear from any homeschooling moms. I'm kind of torn on the whole unschooling idea. That is the style I have leaned toward but I'm afraid if I don't choose some kind of curriculum in reading that my son will be a late reader. Any thoughts on this? Enlighten me, please. Just give me something to think about...

* I'm working on a Valentines Ideas For Mom section. Got anything you want to add? A product or an article?

I've debated on whether to homeschool so many times. It's mainly because my daughter loves school so much that I don't.

Sorry I don't have any advice for you but I'd love to know how it goes for you.

Good luck!

Julia is 2 and the idea of homeschooling is something I've thought about, but haven't really researched, yet. There's a lot to consider. I hope you'll share some of the information you come across.

I know a lot of home schooling moms. I suggest you find an online group that get together on a regular basis. That way the kids still get the socializations aspect. Waldorf is something they talk about a lot but I have not researched anything for myself. I think having a routine would be important even if you are unschooling. Just so you and the kids know what to expect. Just my humble opinion :D

Definitely find a group that you enjoy, there are a lot of homeschool blogs out there so I'm sure you can find someone to identify with. We just started homeschooling this year and it's going well. I don't have a curriculum I bough as a set, but a whole bunch of stuff I've found or was told about.

As far as late reading...I've read that some homeschooled kids read later then "normal" but they also taught themselves to read so maybe I was reading about un-schooled homeschooled kids.

Oh but definitely research the curriculum - it's been said that for the first year buy something inexpensive because you will most likely not like it. LOL
