I AM Domestically Challenged: Welcome To My World

I am domestically challenged.

I’m not a good cook. At best, I can one day hope to make a cake without fried egg in the middle.

I’m not organized.

I’m not a neat freak.

I can’t decorate not even with the help of home decorating 101

Basically, the only domestic thing I am good at is vacuuming so I do it often

I hate washing dishes and I miss the dishwasher in our old apartment. If you came to our home you may see the same pile of dirty dishes two days in a row.

The boys have overtaken every room in our home and no room is free of junk and toys.

And, I’m mostly ok with all of this until I read about the moms who seemingly have it all together with immaculate homes and perfected recipes.

I begin to wonder, could I do that? Do I need to be like THAT mommy?

More importantly, HOW can I do that when I work at home full time with two kids at home? It’s not even realistic… Furthermore, if you are THAT mommy who has it "all together" with kids at home AND you also work at home, then please do drop me a line and share your secrets with me. Until then, I'll be over here in my mess.

You know how those moms do it? They LIE! There is no way to always have it together. I can cook, and I am able to clean, but I hardly do lol! come stop by my new blog and vote for your favorite jewelry.

I have no idea how they do it. But I think these people exist, somewhere. I know it -- and I will never have my act together!

I'm with Kristen...they LIE! We all like to strive to be Supermoms, but it's not realistic. I think everyone makes choices and some of those choices include: cooking, cleaning, playing with the kids, laundry, homeschooling, etc...ad nauseum.

Like I said - all choices. And nobody can do it all..ALL of the time.

As long as YOU are ok with it, that is all that matters! Don't worry about everyone else.

I had to let go of a lot of my desires to be clean and organized all the time once my daughter hit toddlerhood and we stay home together.

I found these 2 magnets the other day and they HAD to come home with me.

DIRTY Dishes
MESSY Floors
HAPPY Kids

I Clean Every Other Day and This Is The OTHER Day.

They kinda fit ME to a big fat T LOL.

I am most definnitely NOT that mommy. My house is usually wrecked, there are dishes in the sink, piles of laundry waiting to be washed, and at least ten more things on my to-do list that need attention. I like to cook, although I'm not great at it. But, I'm happy. It isn't laziness or lack of pride - I just choose to focus my energy on the people I care about first and the things I care about second.

To be honest, when my house is spotless, it's a bad sign. I clean like a maniac when I'm mad or upset.

I really don't think there's a mom out there that has it all together. If there is, we need to find her and make her our Queen.

By no means is my house perfect. Living in a small rental space is what I contribute ALL my disorganization on, hehe! I say if you are happy, the boys are happy ... pshhhaa on the rest.

When I'm gone and others mark my remains, I hope they'll have something more interesting to say than "She always kept such a tidy house." I enjoy my hobbies, my children are exploring and learning, our home is more of a laboratory and art studio than a museum, and that's how we like it. As long as the food prep areas are kept clean enough to avoid food poisoning and we have clean clothes and a place for friends to sit, that's sufficient. At least after visiting me, my friends won't avoid having me over just because they're too embarrassed at the disorder in their homes!

I , too, am domestically challenged. I like to keep a clean house but I am horrible about organization and decorating. People usually "think" my house is organized but if they opened my cabinets, closets, drawers (or anywhere else that I stash stuff away) they would be very surprised at the clutter. You're not alone! :)

I'm a horrible cook.

I used to be a neat freak and very organized, but that was before I started working at home.

How do other WAHM's do it? They Lie.

People sometimes ask me, how I do it all.
And I'm very honest.... I don't do it all.

My house is usually what get's left behind and my husband makes dinner.

The way I look at it... I am not a maid, I get paid with love and lots of messes - glue on the table, red food coloring on the couch, mascara on the wall.... If I were a paid housekeeper, my family would have fire me a long time ago. (Maybe deep down inside I keep hoping that my husband will notice that even though I don't work, I can't keep up with it all and he will get a maid) But then I'll feel incredibly guilty, because I DO stay at home.... sigh

This is just like me!!! Atleast I'm not alone! My best friend does have an immaculate home and has two kids...the thing is,she's literally always picking up behind them and I feel she puts the housework over spending time with the kids..I hope she doesn't see this...if she does, well I have some splainin to do,lol.

I guess I am the odd ball...I have four young boys, I have my online boutique (www.nstylemom.com), I also help with the bookkeeping for my husbands business plus the local vet. in town and all his bookkeeping. Plus I am a complete neat freak. How do I do it? I don't sleep..lol I go to bed about 2 or 3 am and I am up around 6 am. I do take a nap when I lay down my 2 year old for about an our. That gives me my second wind. I have certain days that I do certain things besides laundry, that is 4 loads a day at least. I am always tired but still manage to take care of it all. I haven't seen makeup or my little black dress in about 5 yrs. but I somehow keep everything else together.

With my busy schedule, I am actually starting my own home business as well. Got a blog set-up for it but stil undecided what to sell. Maybe you can advise me on what to do? Anyway, if you intend to cook, i have some recipes posted on my blog (http://www.mummyathome.com Mummy At Home ). Or if you are looking at some easy japanese food recipe ( I am a Japanese by the way staying in AZ), let me know or email me!
