Loosing The Training Wheels

There comes a time in every kids life when they have to lose the training wheels. That time came for our 6 year old son a couple days ago. We took the training wheels off of his bike and he was riding alone in no time. You should see him go now! He's gotten a few scrapes, and had a few wipe outs along the way but his confidence and excitement have not faded! He's already thinking he can do tricks! Yikes! It may be a little too early for that! Luckily, that photo was taken with training wheels on over a year and a half ago.
When did your child learn to ride a bike? Do you remember your first time without training wheels?

My first time with out training wheels I ended up breaking my arm. I was so proud that I could ride my bike that I went down the street to show off to my friend. She lived at the bottom of a hill so I crashed because I was going too fast. Fun times.

My son got his first big boy bike when he was 4. We took him out to the front of the house, and while I was waiting for hubby to join us, our son got on his bike and took off up the street. So much for teaching him how to ride! He was born to do things like that, I guess.

Julia's got her tricycle and that's enough for me, right now.

I don't really remember my training wheels coming off, but I remember the new bike I got right after I learned to ride without them. It was a pink Huffy bike and I thought it was the coolest thing to ever exist on the earth.
