Dear Internet People, Please Calm Down
Yesterday when I wrote the post Too Cool For Rules I sort of meant it tongue-in-cheek. I shouldn't have to explain myself because this is my blog but I do want people to know that we are not idiots and we certainly aren't bad parents. We just believe a tiny bit in what is defined as "anarchist parenting". Anyway, I said a tiny bit because as usual there is more to it than that but some of our beliefs coincide with AP. We also OBVIOUSLY understand that much of this doesn't apply to the world we are currently living in. And it certainly can't apply when your child is in the public school system. But it's nice to actually be able to talk about it which is exactly what I was doing.
We live in a screwed up world where everybody is an expert and everybody is afraid of breaking rules and we're all so worried about what everyone else does and has, that we can't think for ourselves anymore.
Ultimately, that post was about my thoughts and our ongoing discussion as parents. When it comes down to it, all we want our children to really learn is that it's OK to be late and to not get so caught up in freaking out over being late IF and WHEN it happens. Haven't you ever heard of "better late than never"?
I guess saying f**k authority freaks some people out. I guess those people never break rules and get to their required destinations 30 minutes early. Yeah, OK. That's so not how we are. I wonder if there is anyone on this planet who hasn't wanted to say f**k the rules every now and then?
PS. Don't take everything you read on the Internet so seriously. And now go watch this video. It's funny! But don't hate me. I didn't make it.Labels: anarchist parenting, parenting, too cool for rules

Don't pay too much attention to negative comments - it is obvious from the rest of your blog that you are a VERY conscientious parent! People are too quick to judge! I love your blog so keep blogging just the way you do!
I hope my comment yesterday didn't offend you at all. I know that you and your husband are great parents and that your children are wonderful. My comment wasn't to suggest that you are disrespectful or teaching your children to be disrespectful - especially since your post was all sort of hypothetically saying "if he's late." I was trying to share my feelings about the message being late sends to me. I hope it didn't seem like I was finger-pointing. I guess using "you" makes it seem that way. I was going along with the hypothetical thing. I apologize if I wasn't clear. I wouldn't try and judge your parenting because I certainly wouldn't want anyone to judge mine!
Leslie,
This post was basically to the anonymous commenter and to anyone other haters out there NOT you! LOL :)
