Is Blogging Losing It's Cool Factor?
It's seems as though the blogging fad (arguably a fad or strategy?) is slowing down. I know more and more people are blogging now compared to last year but the commenting and passionate blogging every day for many mom bloggers has slowed down. Maybe it's just my perception of things but I think that some bloggers have gone in different directions online as a result of their blogging and others have just slowed down or even quit completely. I've also noticed that a lot of bloggers are no longer commenting anymore. Or at least the commenting has slowed quite a bit. However, I know people are still reading. Anyone else noticed this in the blogosphere lately? It's just nice to see the comments and reading match up better. But I can't say much since I'm guilty of this too but I will say that I am trying to read a couple new blogs everyday just for fun.
So, what's really going on? Has the mommy blogging lost it's cool or are we entering an entirely new phase?
P.S. For those of you who read about the Full Time Work At Home Mom Report that I blogged about a few days ago, I wanted to let you know that Carrie is only selling 100 of these books so if you want one you better get it soon. They are selling fast and it's a terrific resource for those that want to learn how to begin working at home full time.
And, if you haven't heard go read about the latest Mattel Geo Trax recall if you have these train toys at home. As usual we do. Ack! I'm so sick of all these recalls. Anyone know of a good cave for sale? ;)Labels: blogging, mommy bloggers, toy recall

I do have this feeling of being late to the party. My blog is about my pregnancy, but it was inspired by some work I did for Parenting.com earlier this year, and the bloggers I met through that.
I don't feel like I have the capacity to read and comment like I should, to grow connections with people. But maybe that is in part due to the general slow-down/ennui you're describing? Something in the internet water?
Please do stop by my site, if you're up for reading something new. I'd love to "see" you there.
I've also got some cre8Buzz invites available if you're interested. The moms group there is the biggest, and fastest growing, and yet, some of the top moms are already jumping ship to the "women" category -- as in I'm-more-than-a-mom -- but also seems like being a mom blogger, while always an issue/risk of dismissal/pigeonholing (don't-just-call-me-a) is losing street cred there too...?
(By the way, I came to your post via a Blogher ad link on another site I was visiting.)
For me, I have been just ridiculously busy with wedding stuff and to top it off just plain lazy LOL. But I can't speak for anyone else. I'm trying to get back into it. Trying.
I haven't noticed it much, actually. The mom blogs I check out usually have tons of comments and they post all the time.
I've found that as long as I remain active in the community (leaving comments and reading their blogs) then I keep getting readers and commenters.
I've noticed some posts get a lot more comments than others, too.
So, not really sure if it has lost it's coolness (lol), but maybe more moms are just busy trying to get adjusted to school being back in session?
Glad to see you back in action Kristen! ;)
I have noticed more than a handful of bloggers who have been at it a while going from faithful daily posts to a more lax schedule. I don't know if that's a sign that it's losing it's cool factor or something else. I guess the more readers and commenters you have, the move reading and commenting you are probably doing and perhaps that effects the writing. I don't know.
My blogroll is filled, mostly, with bloggers who are generous commenters. I like that interaction, although I'm curious about the readers out there who do not comment. I know they're out there. I'd love to know who they are and what they're thinking.
Wait! Mommy blogging was cool? Crap. I missed it. Heh.
I think some of us just get a little too absorbed reading. I'm afraid I'll miss something in the next post if I stop to type. Hehe Sometimes I also feel like a "Peeping Tom" as well. I get to sit back and read about other's lives and it feels creepy to admit I was there. How wierd is that? =)
