What Are Some of Your Favorite Vacation Books?
In less than 30 days, I'll be going on vacation. Every May we take a week's vacation to the beach and this year I really want to relax. I don't want to bring my laptop along although something tells me it's going to be tagging along (mostly for the hubs work). Relaxing for me is reading a good book in the warm sun with my toes in the sand. And, I need your help. What are some of your new favorite books? What do you recommend that I take along? I'd have to say my favorites are Dean Koontz, Patricia Cornwell, and James Patterson. However, I'm open to all types of fiction and non-fiction. I also hope you will help me do something else. I talked yesterday about these fun giveaways and today one of them has started. Go over to AMomsReview.com and enter the Fruity Cheerios Giveaway. Labels: favorite mom books

The Poop Memories of Motherhood
A few nights ago the boys and I sat on the bed laughing about poop and farts. Y ep, you can get away with that kind of stuff if you have all boys and only 1 girl(me) in the house. We made up poop & fart rhymes, jokes, and names. What? It was educational.Strangely, that was the most fun I'd had in a long time. Just sitting there and really being in the moment with my two little boys. The sound of their laughter and the looks on their faces was the sweetest thing. It's those moments that we will all remember. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On to other things, Take a moment today and read some of the new reviews posted over at AMomsReview.com You may find something you like or dislike. My Work At Home Mom Backstory...
I'm often asked how I make money from home. Many times people don't understand what I mean and sometimes I think some folks don't even believe me, ya know, because oftentimes what we don't understand we don't believe. Anyway, I'd like to think that I can help other Moms out even if it was just so that a mom could have an extra few dollars each week to spend on herself or even to help out with one bill. That's how I started out. I remember the first "paycheck" I got from working from home almost 4 years ago. I even remember what I bought with it. I took my son, who was 2 1/2 at the time, to the animal shelter and let him pick out a puppy. We bought the puppy along with some supplies with my first work at home paycheck. Obviously, it wasn't a whole lot of money but it was money I had made from creating a website a month prior. Nowadays, things are a lot different and I take this at home business more seriously. I also make more than the cost of a puppy and food. Thankfully, I make enough to buy the groceries, pay the rent, and the rest of the bills since the husband is currently enrolled in a PHD program. Once he is done and has secured a full time faculty position, I think I'll slow down a bit. Or maybe not since the boys will both probably be in school everyday and I'll have nothing to do. Of course, I could finally spend my days shopping or relaxing. ;) So if you ever have any questions about working from home and the real story, you know who to ask. If you have any questions now (nothing is dumb I promise) ask them in the comments section right now. I'll answer them there so that others can benefit too! More Mom Confessions
Sometime last year I let out some random mommy confessions and it felt good. And, now there is a website (that I'm addicted to reading) that is devoted strictly to true mom confessions. I have given a "me too" to a few of those confessions myself. And now I present y'all with a few new non-anonymous confessions of my own again... 1.) I bribe my 6 year old son with cards. He loves cards of all kinds such as garbage pail kids, football, Yu-gi-oh,etc... When I want him to do something, I'll sometimes tell him I'll give him a pack of cards. It works. So I keep a box of packaged cards in a secret place for when these "bribing times" arise. 2.) I read at least 20-30 books to both of my boys everyday and I still feel guilty because I think it's not enough. 3.) Instead of washing dishes and cleaning, I surf the internet instead. 4.) I really truly do not want to send my kids to public school. 5.) I feel isolated as a stay at home/work at home mom. But even with this isolation, I wouldn't have it any other way. 6.) It pisses me off when Moms say they are so tired and never get any time to themselves yet their kids are in school all week and during the weekends, their kids get thrown off on Grandma & Grandpa or just whoever will take them so they can go shopping, out to eat alone, or to the bar or just lying around at home. Geesh, I just wish I got a break like once a month! These Moms have no freakin' clue. What's yours? Labels: mom blog, mom confessions, motherhood, mothering

I'm Pretty Sure They Think We're Crazy
Last night I half-convinced my husband that our 6 year old son had rheumatic fever all because I looked down his throat with a flashlight and saw something white coupled with the fact that he had a rash a week ago, and some nosebleeds. Oh, and did I mention Google? Yes, add Google to the mix there and your child will have everything there is. Gosh, you can convince yourself and everyone around you that they have something! So, this morning we took both boys to their pediatrician as per Google's suggestion. LOL. Seriously, though, they needed to be seen just to be on the safe side. They were both checked out and it turned out to be just bad seasonal allergies that comes around every year so we were given some zyrtec and nasonex for the oldest, and off we go or so we thought. Here comes the part about the slide... There is a slide in the pediatrician's office that our 2 year old likes and he didn't want to leave the slide. Our 2 year old had a god-awful tantrum because we were ready to leave the Dr's office. The hubs had to carry him out kicking, screaming & shirtless in 50 degree weather. And, I'm convinced that after that scene, the receptionist and Pediatrician thought we were absolutely crazy people who can't control their kids. Please tell me your kid(s) act like this sometimes? Rain Rain Go Away...
...because my boys want to go out and play. And, if they don't get out to play, mommy may not survive this day... When my boys are cooped up inside all day they have a tendency to go wild. They fight. They get into EVERYTHING. The house turns into a warzone and disaster area unfit for us all. They have been fighting over a piece of garbage. A piece of a purple broken toy. Honestly, I don't even know what it is. With possibly over a gazillion books, movies, games, etc. to choose from they want to fight over that one piece of junk. Imagine that. I need to work today. I didn't work last Friday or the Easter weekend nor yesterday so you can imagine how swamped I am. I've got content to write, books and products to review, blog entries to write, two contests to judge, and an inbox full of emails to go through. Maybe I should just give up until this evening??? Put some music on and dance with my boys until dinner time. That's been a good stress reliever(for me) and energy reliever (for the boys) as of late. What do you and your kids do on rainy spring days? If it was a bit warmer, I'd let them play in the rain. Labels: motherhood, mothering, rainy days inside, work at home mom

Good Kids Bad Habits Review
I was sent the book, Good Kids Bad Habits: The Real Age Guide To Raising Healthy Children, to review some time back. I read the book a while ago but hadn’t had a chance to put my thoughts on to paper or to the keyboard. Two sentences from the introduction of the book hooked me in and I knew that I needed to read this book once I had read and absorbed what those sentences were saying. Here is that excerpt, “Kid’s today have developed so many bad health habits that they’re facing heart attacks in their 30s. Experts predict they’ll be the first generation of children to have a lower life expectancy than their parents“. Those two sentences should be enough for anyone to want to read this book and see what it’s all about even if you already think you are doing a good job with your kids. This book steers you in the right direction as to what healthy habits and choices your child should be making no matter what the age. Of course, most of what is in the book is common sense but it’s a great book nonetheless. It’s a great book because you can find out how well you and your child are doing healthwise by doing the Real Age test provided in the book. I did the test for my 6 year old son and he did surprisingly well. His overall score was an 8. Sure, I knew we were already doing pretty well on teaching our son good healthy habits but I realized we weren’t doing so swell with the physical activity part during the cold months. When it gets cold here in our neck of the woods, it’s hard to get outside and there are no resources or places to take your kids to let them run around, play, or exercise. There’s not even a playland or anything like that. Someone needs to build one here in our small town for the sake of our children’s health. Public schools aren’t much better. Most of them only provide 1 hour per week of physical education classes. My son isn’t in school yet and when he does start, it seems like we will have less time to be physical. I guess I need to start getting more creative with physical activities. I’m thinking of buying him the Dance pad for his Playstation for cold weather and when he can’t go outdoors to get his exercise in every day. So now, thanks to the Good Kids Bad Habits book, we know what habits to work on for our son which are more physical activities during the inclement weather and better teeth health. I admit to not making my 6 year old son floss frequently but it will become part of our routine very soon. Overall, this book is an excellent resource for parent to have. It’s also a good way to measure how well you are doing with instilling healthy habits for different age ranges as your child grows. I’ll keep this one handy for a while. You can purchase Good Kids Bad Habits here and I totally recommend it to all parents who want the best for their kids. You can also take the Real Age test for your child there too right now for free. What Makes You Happy Today
Some people never fully realize how lucky they are or how good of a life they have. On a daily basis, I'm thankful for my life and what my family and I have. And, I'm not meaning what we physically have like material possessions. I'm talking about the relationship we have. The love & closeness we share. The laughter. The craziness. And all that is us. Sure, I complain sometimes and ramble on about the not-so-great aspects of motherhood and life in general. Sometimes I get stressed over having too much to do and sometimes I worry over the day to day life things but overall I've got to say that I have a great life. Some times I get upset over the silliest things like the fact that we have a crapola kitchen table or that we currently rent (not own) an old home but gosh we sure are a very happy close-knit family. And, isn't that what really counts anyway? I don't even need to ask you that question. I know it is. Take a few moments and look around and tell me some things that really make you happy today. I'd love to hear all about them. ~~~~~~ Shameless Promotion Here: I've also added some new resources to a few sites about working from home that you may be interested in reading about below: Work At Home Based Business MomsAll About Telecommuting For MomsHow To Start A Blog & Make Money over at Jobs For Stay At Home MomsAnd on our OurSmartBaby.com blog, Easter Treats, How Do You Celebrate Easter? and How To Make Bunny TracksAlso, if you would like to be included in the RealSavvyMoms blog directory, send me an email with your blog link. Screaming and Spam and Motherhood...
Today the boys simply cannot get along. Every five minutes they are screaming or fighting over something. I take them outside..they fight! I take them inside...they fight! Do you see a pattern here? So I decided to sit down at the computer for five minutes and tune them out, and what do I see in my email? SPAM. SPAM is everywhere! SPAM has filled up my inbox. SPAM has filled up the comment sections of my blogs. I've had so much SPAM and screaming today that I want to scream too! Ok. End of Rant. Hatin' On Cadbury Cream Eggs
So, Easter is almost upon us and most of you have probably walked through the Easter candy Isle at your local target or walmart or whatever store is in your area. You've probably also seen those much-loved Cadbury cream eggs. Well, every time I see those Cadbury cream eggs I feel nauseous. I never could eat one. I remember how I would receive them in my Easter basket as a child and didn't really like them but I never said anything. I tried to eat the chocolate around the filling. I did not like the filling that looked like a real raw egg yolk. To this day, I have not bought my kids a Cadbury cream egg mostly because of my aversion to them. I sure hope no one else introduces my boys to these things because I just don't like seeing them lying around. I should mention that I don't like Peeps either. Those Cadbury cream eggs and Peeps are among the most popular Easter candy ever so why don't I like them? Am I alone in this? What Easter candy do you hate? What To Do When Your Child Says...
"I don't want to potty train. I'm a baby!" Our younger son will be 3 in June. Last September he was almost potty trained for around a month and then out of nowhere he was no longer interested. I don't really know what happened other than we went on a Fall vacation and I put him back in pull ups for the long trip. Maybe that confused him? And, now, some days he's interested and some days he's not. Up until now I've had a very relaxed approach to his potty training and have basically let him decide when he's ready. This morning when he woke up I replaced his nighttime diaper with some cute underwear. Well, he peed in them and took them off saying, "I want a diaper on. I'm a baby". Again! Oh, the joys of potty training... and this is my 2nd time around... Ah!! Got any tips you want to share? Labels: potty training, toddler boy

Loosing The Training Wheels
There comes a time in every kids life when they have to lose the training wheels. That time came for our 6 year old son a couple days ago. We took the training wheels off of his bike and he was riding alone in no time. You should see him go now! He's gotten a few scrapes, and had a few wipe outs along the way but his confidence and excitement have not faded! He's already thinking he can do tricks! Yikes! It may be a little too early for that! Luckily, that photo was taken with training wheels on over a year and a half ago. When did your child learn to ride a bike? Do you remember your first time without training wheels? Labels: 6 year old son, learn to ride bike, thoughtful 6 year old boy, training wheels
