Santa Is Fake And He Doesn't Care

We left the boys with their grandparents (the in-laws) for 2 days after Christmas so that Hot Daddy and I could celebrate our 9th anniversary sans kids. While we were chowing down on fast food and watching way to many movies ( What? You mean this isn't what you are supposed to do while alone on your anniversary), our 3 year old learned the truth about Santa Claus.

Yesterday evening Baby Picasso came up to me and said while giggling, "There's no such thing as Santa Claus. Santa is fake." He went on to say that his Daddy was Santa. What's funny is that he doesn't care and I'm kind of sad. Heck, Future Bam still believes and he's 6 1/2 years old.

Someone is in trouble for breaking the news. I just don't know who...

Come back tomorrow for my 2007 favorites/best of's

Happy Holidays from the Mom blog

I want to wish everyone who visits the mom blog a very Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Kwanza. I'm getting this out early as we are about to embark on our holiday travels just like we do every year.

Remember to hold your dear ones close, take in every moment, and have fun creating memories with your families this Christmas.

I'll leave you with one of my favorite Christmas quotes...

And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled 'till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.
Dr. Seuss

Thanks for a great year...

We will resume after the 27th... but maybe..just maybe. I'll twitter before then. Let's just leave this little mircoblogging obsession between you and me. ;)

I Promise I Let Them Play With Toys

So apparently my home isn't a disaster like I thought it was according to the commenters in my last post. I'm actually quite relieved that we are all in this together (or some of us anyway because I have seen houses with small kids that are completely clean and you wouldn't think anyone lives there).

I do have to confess that I kind of cheated and took the picture in the last post when things didn't look too bad. So don't go thinking that our old house is all organized and clean, or that I am a horrible Mother who doesn't let her children play with their toys. LOL.

In case you all are wondering I do let my kids play with their toys all through the house ALL DAY LONG. That is, when I don't have them locked up in a cage*. But see, there's toys in there!!!! Yippee!!!

*I don't really lock my kids up in cages but you knew that already. This disclaimer is for the crazies and trolls that come around.

This Is What A WAHM's Home Looks Like

Working from home with kids at home during work hours usually results in this... Well, who am I kidding? -ALWAYS results in this. And, the mess you see in the photo is mild compared to most days.

Christmas isn't here yet(it's close -7 days!) but I've already started thinking about the New Year. Have you?

Micro Blogging

Here's a look at my day so far via micro blogging -taken from twitter...

I just may get some work done if my 3 yr old would stop jumping up on the couch. Maybe I should switch to my desktop.

Why do I have to deal with so many fake new user accounts? It wastes my time.

It's time for some changes...

I live in a small town full of idiots...just had to get that out there this morning.

Are you twittering? Are you following me? And, a question for those who twitter: Do you follow everyone who follows you? Should we?

The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

Here are the ingredients you need to have a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day:

1.) Have 3 yr. old wake up up with a 105 F temperature
2.) Give tylenol
3.) Have 3 yr. old wake 2 hours later with a temp back up to 105.4 F
4.) Call pediatrician after dropping 6 yr. old off at school.
5.) Pediatrician is out for the week
6.) We are told to go to the ER
7.) Go to ER
8.) Get to ER crowded with people wanting pain medicine. Is your wrist hurting really an emergency? I don't think so. Grrrrr.....
9.) 3 yr. old gets put into a room near several patients infested with lice. OMG. Freakin out.
10.) People wanting drugs on the other side. Total nightmare.
11.) 3 yr. old has ear infection. Yes, we already suspected that. We just need antibiotics.
12.) Get home, give medicine.
13.) 3 yr. old pukes medicine. He is allergic to it.
14.) Call ER for new medicine. They don't seem to comprehend our son's allergies & condition. This does not surprise me!
15.) Call pharmacy. No new medicine to pick up.
16.) Pharmacy ready to close, call ER again about new medicine.
17.) Finally get new medicine a few minutes before pharmacy closes.
18.)Takes meds, all is well until temp spikes back up!
19.)Temp down, goes to sleep
20. The terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day is OVER.

Thankfully the antibiotics have kicked in and our son is doing better today.

Signs Of The Christmas Season With Kids

I made boiled eggs this morning for Baby Picasso.

While I was cutting one up he said,

"Eeew, those eggs smell bad. They're not getting any presents for Christmas!"

I guess that song finally got to him... Well, that and his older brother.

Have you been good or bad this year?

Get Me A Juice Box Biatch!

Every night before bed my 6 year old son and I have a lengthy conversation that usually involves wild ideas on his part (like the one below). I love this one on one time with him where he can tell me all about his day, how he's feeling, or about all those things going on inside his brain. Some nights these conversations go on and on and I feel like I'm never going to get him to sleep but sooner rather than later he drifts off into dreamland. This nightly ritual is so important to me because I know as Future Bam gets older it will allow him to feel like he can come to me and talk to me about anything that is going on in his life.

One evening this week as Future Bam and I were getting ready for bed, he asked me what I wanted for Christmas. Before I could answer he turned to me and said, "I know what I want to get you". He went on to tell me that he wanted us to get real robots from Santa so that the robots could do all my work and all his chores while we played. It wasn't such a bad idea. It still isn't such a bad idea :)

After he got through all the excitement of what he wanted our robots to do he asked me what I wanted to name my robot. In an effort to make him laugh like I usually do, I said, "Booger butt". Then he said, "I'm going to name mine biatch!".

Trying to mask my laughter with disappointment, I said, "Where did you hear that? Do you know that's a 'bad' word?".

Being the super sensitive child that he is, he immediately began bawling and said that he didn't know it was a bad word because the little boy on the movie Zathura said it. I immediately remembered the line from the movie and couldn't help but laugh out loud. You can see the clip from the movie here .

After I laughed and got him to smile, I told him he shouldn't say it again simply because it's not nice. End of story...

I think Leslie explained it better and with much more humor that I ever could so go on over and read what she had to say about her recent experience here.

What did you do when your child said their first bad word? Laugh? Cry? Get angry? disappointed? Worse (surely not)?

First Snow Days

Our weatherman is forecasting the first snow of the season for tonight and tomorrow. However, I'm quite skeptical at this point since most of the time these forecasts end up being wrong. Where I live, a more accurate measure of whether we are going to get snow or not is how much bread and milk is left at the local grocery store. If there is no bread and no milk then you can rest assured that we will get accumulating snow.
For some reason, people around these parts get hysterical at the thought of accumulating snow. They run out to the stores and stockpile food as if the world was going to end over an inch of snow. I've seen this happen my entire life and I must admit that's it's all part of the fun, anticipation, and excitement of a first snow. And, if we do get some snow there will be another first. Can you guess what it is? This first will be for our darling kindergartener in the form of a SNOW day! I remember how exciting those days were for me as a child. So here's to hoping my little guy gets his very first snow day. If not now, there's always January when snow days are pretty much guaranteed.

Crickets + House = Hell

Two days ago I noticed a cricket in our house. I killed it. All was fine and life went on. Yesterday I killed more than one cricket inside our house. Then the unthinkable happened. I came across 4 more crickets IN THE FREAKIN' house and one of them jumped towards me. It wouldn't be so bad if these crickets didn't look like a spider and were limited to the laundry room. But, NO, these cricket/spider (spickets as I like to call them for their spider like qualities) were randomly jumping around our living room.

I am not embarrassed to admit that bugs get to me. They cause me to start hyperventilating. There are very few things in my life so far that I cannot handle. Spiders, bugs, snakes, and bodies of water are among the things that cause me to "lose it".

So, what's a girl to do when crickets have invaded? You Google them. And, you know what I learned? We have a cricket invasion. Ya think? So I started thinking about how these crickets got in here and the only way I can think of is through a box of Christmas lights that I got from our storage building that is in fact filled with crickets on most occasions. I immediately threw all the boxes back outside. So far we have no more crickets. I think I may be ok and not ready to move out of this house... that is until I see another cricket. Maybe we need to get a cat.

Got any cricket ridding tips/solutions for me? Anyone else out there ever have this problem? Tips on how to keep me sane are welcome to. ;)
