My First Wedding
This Saturday I am shooting a wedding for an extended family member. Yes, I'm the official wedding photographer. Did you just read that last sentence? Me - the "official" photographer. Yes, I'm surprised too.
If you've been reading for long or even looked at my flickr photos you'd know that I am most definitely not a professional photographer. At best I am the kid snapshot queen. heh. So, as the date approaches, and even though I warned the couple in advance that I am no pro, I am starting to get very worried that I am going to screw up their lifetime memories. Can you feel the stress through your screen?
The good thing about all of this is that I'm doing it for free so I won't feel too bad if the photos don't turn out as expected. At least that is what I will tell myself if the photos turn out like crap but I'll probably cry or hide out instead. Not sure which just yet. The bad thing is that I just spent another $200+ on equipment today so I'm negative $200 in terms of this camera gig thingy. ;) At least I have new gear to test on my boys.
So, should I be wishing that the wedding gets called off? Is that bad luck?Labels: crazy stuff, first wedding photographer

Hi there, I'm new here and I also love photography.
Good luck on your first wedding photography gig. I think it's fun to be the photographer for this event. :D
Good luck. Try not to let others tell you what snaps you should take and where you should be. You are the professional - the one with the camera and the one who has to deal with what photos come out.
I don't do it professionally, but end up being the default photographer and lighting is usually my biggest concern.
Good luck on the wedding shoot. My best friend does wedding photography and even though she has been doing it the past two years and does a great job she is nervous everytime. At least the couple know that you can't promise them professional quality. Perhaps they are an easy going couple and it won't be a big deal.
You are going to shoot the wedding with a Nikon D40? Are you planning on shooting RAW+JPG? (Probably the wise choice) Remember you will need a lot more card space for that!!!! (If you are not already using this)
Good Luck with the shoot, try and enjoy it.
The wedding is over. TG! :)
Yes, I used a Nikon D40 and yes I shoot in Raw+JPG and took 6 gigs of memory but only ended up using one card as there was 1 additional photographer there.
