Eosinophilic Esophagitis and Foods To Eat
Up until about 2 weeks ago, we thought we had our son's food allergies and eosinophilic esophagitis under control. Then the vomiting started again, and now it's bad. He's vomiting almost everything he eats unless it's rice milk, rice cereal, bagels, peanut butter, eggs, or crackers. How is my baby boy supposed to live like this? It's hard on him and it's hard on us. I had to take away his trick-or-treat candy today. Truthfully, we should have never allowed him to have any of it in the first place. But we gave in and allowed him to have things he shouldn't because his steroids were helping him, or at least masking his problem. His GI Dr. also said we could try and re-introduce some foods if he wasn't having any symptoms. I guess we gave him too much.
We made an appointment next week with his specialist to see what we need to do, and this morning we started him on a very restricted diet once again. An elemental diet such as Elecare is something we are also considering at this point as well. I guess we will wait and see what his GI Dr. suggests.
So, in the meantime, I've been searching for new recipes our son can eat for what seems like hours and I'm not getting anywhere. What can I make that tastes good and is soy-free, dairy-free, meat-free, and corn-free among other foods? Really, what's left?Labels: Eosinophilic Esophagitis, food allergies

That is so tough. I can't even imagine. I feel for him and for you! I can't even think of what would be left! Have you thought of consulting with a nutritionist to craft a custom menu for you? Maybe you already have done this. HUGS!
Yeah, there's not much left after that. Poor guy! That's gotta be tough.
My son has EE and we've been following the 6 food elimination diet for over a year now. It's made a huge difference, but you must be strict at all times with it. Perhaps that would be a great way to establish a baseline for reintroduction of other foods. Once he was on it for about 6 weeks, he was completely clear of eos on biopsy. I have started posting recipes on my blog mamaskitchen-mama.blogspot.com including one for rice bread that works out great. And I've gotten some good ones from a number of sources including the Whole Foods Allergy Cookbook by Cybele Pascal. I also get ideas from my son's nutritionist on his treatment team. I've been really discouraged lately myself as my son is now doing a soy trial and I'm not sure that it's going well. He also stopped growing again and has decreased his eating. After a good year, it's hard to reintroduce these foods again and get on the roller coaster. I wish you luck with your son - I know how hard it is as we've dealt with it in our family for 5 years now.
i am a mother of a 14 month old lil girl with EE. i know that it is hard. my daughter is allergic to eggs, nuts, milk, soy, wheat, and seafood, dustmites and dogs. there are other foods that upset her EE but they say it's not an allergy. we have battled for a year now. we will continue to fight and we are winning!!! we aren't on a feeding tube thank the lord. and i pray that he'll continue to bless us. we are on elecare and rice milk
I have twin 3 year old girls with EE. Not a lot of fun but so worth the elimination diet struggles and various drugs in the end. I just found out I have EE too. Had you or your husband been tested? Seems to run in families.
I also have Eosinophilic Esophagitis (I'm 29), and have found it terribly difficult to single out the foods that are problematic and to get into a good food routine. Is your son allergic to tomato? If not, sounds like you could make something yummy with pasta and pasta sauce. Or even if he is, but doesn't have a wheat allergy, some pasta in an olive oil and garlic sauce could also be great. Sorry if he's allergic to something else in there (like wheat), but just thought I'd give it a try! I wish you guys the best. - Elyse
