I have the firewall set on the computer that the kids use to allow only certain site come up (nick jr and pbskids go are two favorites).
Also, as a double-security measure I can check the browser’s history cache to see if they’ve been able to go elsewhere.
Most of all, I have talked to my kids about “internet stranger danger” & how important it is not to let anyone know their real name, age and location.
The computer is in an open area where there is constant “traffic” in the house so No one will be able to HIDE!!
Works great!!

I keep both my computers out in plane site and can see what my child is doing on the computer at all times.
I have a filter installed on our computer that automatically blocks websites that aren’t kid friendly!
Use NetNanny, plus monitor the sites they’re on. No MySpace, and they can only email the people that have been approved (family, and friends I know).
I’ve installed a key logger on our pc’s to track what they are doing on the internet
We keep a filtering system on our computers to monitor what websites can be accessed.

We keep the computer right in our family room so we can monitor what the children do and see. We also have a “child filter” on the computer, my husband knows a lot more about how it works than I do!

I’ve done several things. I installed a monitoring program that prevents the kids from acessing sites we have not approved. I also moved the pc from their room to the family room so we can monitor how much time they spend online.

I am the only one who on my computer who is able to download any type of files. i also have a firewall blocking any obscene websites and limit my childrens acces on the internet. i bake cookies with them instead
I haven’t had to worry about the internet yet with my children. Now that my oldest is liking playing Jump Start online and I worry about what if a popup ad or something were to come up from a different window I had open.
Right now I really watch him closely while he’s on the computer- but with two other kids I’m not going to be able to do this forever.

Birds are chirping!
We monitor our children while they are online. I have told my children to never believe anyone they communicate with online and never give out personal information to anyone.
My son only goes to the internet when I’m on the computer, he is only 4
I have anti-virus software installed as well as filters enabled to block certain content on the web.
My kids are grown ,Only have granson thats 3. He only uses it with one us so far. Ant my cumputor is in family room, for when he getts older.
We keep the computer in the living room so we can see whatever is going on and we only accept friends we know on Facebook and are very careful on what kind of information we post.
To keep or girls (8 years old) safe online we have set up there favorites and they know that is the only sites they are allowed to go to. We thought them from the first time that they got on the computer that they had to click on their favorites and choose a site from there to get on. They are not allowed to type in any address in the address bar.
My son is too young to use the computer, but we recently protected his credit report for when he is older.
my son is too young to use the computer, but I am more aware of e-mails I open and friends I accept on Facebook….too many people out there trying to get into other people’s computers and mess them up!
To keep him safe I really don’t let him online. When he is online we have the computer set up in our dining room and I can see any and all sites he goes to which he is only allowed to go to two sites anyway.

I could really use this b/c I am computer illiterate. I rarely use the internet/computer, but my young grandchildren (8 & 10) do.
thanx 2 give way
I use the computer alot I do not go on face book have heard to many negative things about it. Our computer is in the living room where we can see what the kids are doing. They are young so they cannot change to a different site without telling us where they want to go.
I dont let my child on the computer at all for fear of what they will find. I never had a computer as a child and dont see the need for my daughter to use one at such a young age. I also keep her in my sites at all times when out in public and make sure she wears bright colored clothes so i can find her easily.
I set parental controls and make sure I know what they are doing while on the computer
I have a good firewall that doesn’t allow alot of unsafe sites to come up on my computer.

I make sure all accounts are set to private and do not accept friend requests unless we actually know the person.
We have firewalls and spyware, etc…my girlfriend just installed a kid friendly browser that controls where your child can go on the net and that sends her emails that let her know what sites her child has visited.
My daughter is only 3, but she does use the computer to play Webkinz and at NickJr.com. She knows that she is not allowed to use the computer without permission. We have also set up blocks so that she can only go to the sites we have allowed, in the event she does try to use to computer when we’re not around.
My son is only 19 months…so he isn’t using the computer yet. But when he does start using it, he will be supervised. We also have the ability to set up his own login…which we can set parameters on.
We have firewall along with spyware and antivirus installed.

My nearly 13 year old son continued to ask us for his own Facebook profile. We finally agreed after putting several safety measures in place -namely our family and friends. The conditions for him being on Facebook included having to “friend” all of our relatives and close family friends who could act as safety measures for him. In knowing that any one of us could, and would, check on what he and his friends were saying, it became an automatic net for him to fall back on when needed. In this way he was able to set boundaries for himself by letting his friends know that anything they say or suggest would be read by any one of us. It took the role of “bad guy” off of his shoulders and has helped protect him from making poor decisions.
We keep the computer out in the kitchen/living room area so we can always monitor the use.

I keep our home PC on a table where our 2.5 yr old cannot reach it and log onto ESPN.com to get baseball scores.
..and when she is old enough to use the PC, she will only be allowed to do so while supervised.
My little girl is not old enough to use the computer yet but my aunt has put their family computer in their playroom so that my cousin can be watched on it at all times.
My kids aren’t old enough to be on the computer yet, but when they are it will be in an open place in the house, near the kitchen.
My son likes to get on the computer and play games, color, or just to see what the computer is all about … he’s only 3! So whenever he’s on its while he is sitting in my lap, but the older he gets I will explain and scare him of how dangerous the computer is if you don’t be careful or ask mommy for help! Thanks!
My daughter is too young for the computer, but I don’t plan on letting her on unless I am with her!

Keeping our kids safe is hard now of days and sometimes the best security software doesn’t work. If my kids are on the internet I’m there at all times, I watch what they get on and if they want to go to another website I check it out first. They never are on it without a parent around, they are 9 and 10. At that age the Disney website is there favorite. Thank you for this giveaway, hope I’m a winner.
We keep our computer in the living room and a parent is required to be in the same room to monitor the computer activity. The kids have limited time and access to the sites such as Nick.com and PBS.com…… We have explained in depth to our children the importance of proper use of the computer and about websites that are not verified as safe with our virus/spam/firewall protection installed on our computer…..
We give them a time limit and have our computer in the living room.

My children aren’t allowed online yet. When they do get to that stage I will monitor time and websites.
Me, I learned the hard way. I ordered off of a website that wasn’t secure and soon enough my credit card was charged with a suspicious charge. Thank goodness I caught quick and my credit card company worked with me on it. From that day forward I only order from secure sites.

I have opted to not allow my children to be on the computer yet. Granted, they are 4 and 6, but many children by this age are already allowed to use the computer to play games, etc. I try to encourage my children to have more physical activity although I have to admit, the 6 year old got a DS from my mom and I have to limit the time on it. Any time we use the computer, it’s to look up something that we don’t know…a fact about a country, animal, etc. and we do this together. Once my children get older or are required to use a computer for school, then I will purchase the strictest software for me to protect them as internet predators are truly frightening.
I use several firewalls and security measures to keep my computer safe from viruses. As far as my kids go any site I let them on has to be mom approved and appropiate for their age level and I monitor how long and often they can get on.

One thing I do to keep my children is safe, is I make sure all the sites they go to, are reliable. Also, before they say any information about themselves, they have to get approval from me, and I can tell if its a fraud, just wanting to get their information to spam them. Well, we use Firefox, which is a great start all by itself. Besides that we also check our computers regularly with Ad-Aware and Spyware Blaster.
We take lots of precautions but still are very cautious
We have a really good firewall, open passwords/open accounts policy, and supervised computer usage at all times. I took my 3 girls to an Internet Safety course at our local library a few months ago, and it scared them straight! This is more so because my girls were kind of ignorant as to how deceptive predatory behaviors can be.

My son is more computer savy then me, so for now I only allow the kids on when I can ” stand over thier shoulder” and monitor them, which according to them is the worst thing a parent can do. I’d love to beable to get this so they could surf the web without mommie, and I could take a few moments for myself.
from1mom2another@msn.com
I only put pictures of my kids on my facebook account with the “only friends” setting. I’m not sure how solid of protection it is, but I feel a little better!
I have a million passwords, so if someone hacked one of my accounts they wouldn’t have the password to everything.
And the final thing is that I very, very rarely have a shopping site save my credit card info.
We are always there when the kids are online and watch what sites they go on. They don’t use the internet much, too young, so not a real problem right now.
My son is not allowed online unless I am sitting with him. Our computer is kept in my room in a locked amoire
I’m a grammy, but I have grandsons who use my computer. The 1st thing I did was go into internet tools, then internet options, then content, then content adviser. Through this tab I was able to set ‘no violence, no drug, no sex, no intimadation, no alcohol, no gambling, etc….I was also able to set a password so only I could change the settings. It’s just one way I trying to keep my grandsons safe. God’s Blessings to all…
The computer is in the living room. NOT the bedroom where we can’t see what’s going on.
ty for the other comments. Have learned alot from the other posters.
i have a special program that i can look where they have been and montor their use. thanks for the giveaway.
We have a Zonealarm, Norton Antivirus, but we’ve discussed with our nieces and nephews the many ways to be proactive when online.
Online safety? It’s a snap.
She’s not that interested in “online” activities, since I gave her my “old” iPhone when she was 3, and now she’s got an iTouch…we supply the content and apps, she’s content…
I keep our computer in a common area and lock it when we are not there to watch
I always watch the kids when they are on the computer. I also have the computer password protected so they can only get on when I alow.
I keep the computer in the family room so I can monitor what my daughter is doing online.
I make sure they know not to share any personal information.
monitering where they go at all times
Only allow access to pre-screened sites and monitor his activities.
the computer is in the family room and we all share when we’re on line.
I have discussions with them every day regarding the websites they visit and the things they do online. They are aware of what is allowed and what is dangerous.

I do not let the children on-line at all! It just is not safe. If they need info, I would much rather take them to a nice safe library. But, I use Security Software for my on-line safety.
I monitor my children while they are online
My son is only allowed to play on the computer in the same room that I am in and I have to approve anything he is playing on. He is 7.
We have the computer in a common area of the house. And it may sound mean but the kids are not allowed to join any social network sites.
We only let my daughter visit certain sites and keep an eye on what she is doing.
We only allow our young daughter to use the computer while we are watching.
Isupervise and block the sites
There are no computers in the kids bedrooms so that I can keep an eye on them while they are online.
I stay in the room with them and keep a close eye on them.
I also have a program that blocks sites that are inappropriate for them.
Thanks so much!

I supervise my daughter whenever she is on the computer but most of the time I try to keep her away from the internet. She plays with educational games that we have purchased. Thanks for the chance to win!
When kids come to the Katie & Kimble blog to leave a question or comment, I highly recommend that they use their first names only and at most, their state or province. If they make the mistake of giving too much information, I repost for them minus that information.

We keep our children safe online by keeping the computer in an open public area of our house. I’m always aware of what sites they’re on (using educational), and I’ll often sit in the room with them & watch what they’re doing.

Right now, my daughter’s just 3, so protecting her online amounts to me being with her whenever we’re doing something or watching something online. I’m already concerned about when she gets older and starts doing more computer work on her own, so this product looks fantastic! Thanks so much for the chance to enter!

I secure my children by beibg with them and by the security that I bought for my computer recently
The computer is in a common area & we have set up a log on just for the kids with filters on internet access. They can also only go to the sites that have been set up in the favorites list. Not allowed to do any online chats or searches without supervision & they are limited to a set time each day.
I keep my family safe by going to the library for every internet safety seminar they have, because they normally have someone from the law enforcement community speaking and notifying you about the latest scams, tricks and ploys being used to coax your famiy members. I also have our family computer in the living room and we donot have access to phones and other gadgets that can be use to log on to the internet.
My only child is 6-months-old, but I plan on installing a program that will only allow her to get on sites that I have pre-approved when she is old enough to play on the computer. Currently, I just watch what my nephew is doing at all times when he is over and playing on my computer.
My kids are 3 and 4 and they love to go to the Disney and Nick Jr. site to play games and print out coloring sheets. I make sure I am always sitting right there with them to guide them.
Children only allowed online in living area when we are home. We make sure they only have access to filtered sites via christian filters. K.
I use a spam blocker
I sit with my child when she is on the internet. We have a lap top so she comes in the room with me and we look at things together. Mom’s rule !
I use the firewall
The computer is in the living room where my husband and I can keep an eye on whoever is on it.
The computer in our home is only used with permission. It is in the family room where anyone can see it. My daughter is only allowed to go to certain websites. I check history to know that she is trust worthy. I also have all the passwords so I can check any site she has been on. We do NOT do myspace or chats in our house.
I keep my kids safe online by monitoring the websites they visit. I am also their friend on all the social networking sites so I can see what they post and how they are behaving. Both of my kids are teenagers.
my daughter started using the internet this year with visiting educational websites. I sit next to her and monitor all that is done, she is still pretty young to go out and surf the net by herself and at that time we will need to set another system up

I signed up for windows live parental control. I listed a list of website they can browse if they try to go to a website that’s not on the list they get shut down and it tell them they have to ask for permission and it prompts them to send me an email to ask for permission and i can approve it or they can call me to the computer and ill enter a password and they can go to the site if i choose. And it does keep a record of what sites they are trying to reach
The computer is in my office, which is an open area, continually updating the anti-virus software, blocked all pop-ups.

I have several websites blocked so my kids don’t have access to them. Additionally, because there are so many sites, they aren’s allowed on the computer when I am unavailable to be with them, for when they do go online, and lastly,I have a password on my computer so the kids can’t access the computer wiothout my having to sign on for them.

3. I regularly review the internet history on our PC.

Our daughters personal computer is not connected to the Internet. Any online stuff she does has to be done on mine or my husbands computer so she knows we can keep an eye on her. Luckily husband works in the computer/technology world, so he is well read on the newest security features available.

I created a facebook account so I could be her “friend” and see what she has on her account. We also don’t allow her to take the laptop to her bedroom.
To keep our kids safe online, we don’t allow them to use sites like YouTube and often we ask them to ask permission even when using Google search. We have bookmarked specific sites they are allowed to play on and we’re always around when the computer is in use.

We only allow our children 1 hour a week of “free” pc time with mom or dad helping them. (Our kids are 15 and 11.) When they ask for more pc time, we give them a book or get the bikes out of the garage and expore in realtime.
My kid is not old enough to use the internet yet, but I’ll keep a close eye his online activities when he’s able to. Thanks for the giveaway!

We only use the computer for a limited amount of time and I make certain my son, who has ADHD, is stimulated by reading a book or outside activities. However, computers are a great luxury and a great source of information. I block many sites that are not age appropriate for when my son is on the computer alone so he’s limited to Disney Channel, Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network. We’ve also had discussions on internet safety plus I created all the passwords to the computers and the internet so he can’t get on it without my supervision.
Thanks for letting me share!
I have my brother check thier computer when they least expect it he knows everything about them and nothing gets by him

I keep my kids safe online by using the parental controls on my computer. It helps monitor where my children are going online and it makes them ask me for authorization if they need to go onto other sites for school work. I also keep my computer in the family room so I can monitor what they are looking at. If they need to make purchases online, we use Paypal so that our credit cards are secure too.
They aren’t allowed on the computer if an adult isn’t in the room. If I wanted to, I could block things because my computer has those capabilities.
I only allow my daughter to use the computer when I am close by!
I never post pictures of my son online unless it is on a private/ by invitation website only.
We keep our family safe by keeping our computer in a public place where I can see everything going on with who ever is on it at the time. We also don’t let the children use the internet after eight since the night time seems to be the most busy on Facebook and public sight s of that sort.

To keep our family safe while online, we’ve placed our computer in a highly visible place, the family room.
To help keep us secure beyond firewalls and virus detection, I’ve worked on becoming more familiar with social engineering tricks in e-mails and attachments. Thanks.
My husband is an expert on home networking and security management. He can not only set up firewalls and other rules to keep the kids out of the “bad places”, he can also set up the computers to only allow them to log in at certain times! He’s a pro!
I’m not too worried yet about my 4 month old on the internet! But we have already started talking about ways we will secure the computers for the future like setting up firewalls.
We have our computer located in our kitchen. As this is a central location it helps in monitoring browsing activity.
have installed internet security & have parental blocks in place
I am honest with him about what could happen to him. I also have his email username/password.
Each kid has their own “Favorites” drop down box in our tool bar. Each drop down box is labled with their name so that they feel like they have something of their own. Each of their “Favorites” lists has all of their favorite websites that they like to visit and they don’t have access to any website that isn’t on their list. My husband and I monitor each list and know exactly what is on each list so that we are aware of everything! Our kids love that they have their own “mini” computer within our big family computer.
My son has to let me know when he’s going on the computer for starters. I’m always around and nearby and I will not allow my child to have a computer in his room. He has various age appropriate games that he plays and only goes online to specific sites. I have saved all the sites he likes (think PBS kids, etc.) in a folder under his name in favorites. I showed him how to go to his folder and he only goes there and does not even know how to browse the web yet.

Other than my anti virus software I just do my best to avoid any sites that seem less than stellar. I don’t shop on sites I’m not familiar with. And I completely avoid phishing and spam emails.

I don’t think I’m doing enough, that’s for sure. As worldly as a 12 yr old believes themselves to be, they are still children that need to be protected.

We keep the family computer in the “work room” in our house. Kids can’t go in there unless Mom or Dad is in there with them. We NEVER leave them in there alone. We stay in there with them the entire time. We watch what they are doing while they are online. Our kids earn time to be in the work room. We use the “time in the work room” as a positive reinforcment. The kids LOVE the “work room” and I get to play with my crafty things while they are in there! We both win!

Our computer is kept in the living room so I can always monitor what my kids are doing. I have found that showing my 13 year old daughter news articles and specials on tv about what has happened to kids because of not being safe, she pays more attention than if I just tell her.

I think the most important thing I’ve done is to make sure there is openness and communication. My daughter has always known the kinds of things to be aware of because she knows a lot of the tricks that preditors try to pull.
I think it’s very important for parents to monitor internet usage because the creeps seem to always have ways to find out who isn’t be watched closely.
I’ve always taught her to never give a real name or address to anyone she doesn’t know. It doesn’t even need to be a physical address. Just something like the name of a school would allow someone to zoom right in on the location.
I make sure that they are only allowed to go to certain sites (their favorites folder) and any new site has to be looked at by us first.
I try to sit with her as she uses the comp
My children besides doing their classes at school also take classes on line (my son who is in all advanced classes in 7th grade just got promoted to 9th grade and put in all honors classes)

We have kids still too young to operate a computer alone, but that won’t last long. My husband and I agreed long ago that we would have one computer for our family in the family room. It is visible to all and for all to see what you’re doing. This is great for skyping, though we originally planned this for future safety.
That said, talking to your kids and educating them is the best way to protect them. You won’t always be there, but your words will echo in their heads if you say them enough.
Our library needs better security for the internet users.
Monitoring their computer use constantly … and having the computer they use in the family room.
