5 Things You Can Do Right Now To Start Saving Money Every Month

> More Money-Saving Tips

makemoney11A lot of families complain and say they can’t save money. Well, I’m here to tell you that you can in fact save money every month. It won’t be super easy but you can do it. You just have to give up a few things for a while.

Furthermore, You may not be able to save a ton of money but you can save some money whether it be for making a big purchase, for vacation, a down payment on a car or home, or simply to put in the bank, it can be done. Below you will find five simple things you can do to start saving money now. In the process, you will also be spending more quality time with your family.

1. Make more meals at home from scratch.

I know, we are all busy and it’s so easy to run through a fast food restaurant to get dinner or open up an expensive pre-made boxed dinner meal. However, it costs a lot of extra money each month when you do this. Start out by making a few meals at home each week. You will quickly see how much money you can save by doing this one simple thing.

2. Instead of going out to the movies, rent DVDs from Redbox or Netflix.

Yes, this is a no-brainer but it works. For the price of 1 movie out, you can rent a month’s worth or more movies for the entire family. Now I’m not saying to stop going out to the movies completely but scale back a bit for savings. You can also watch old movies and specials on Hulu. Many times you can also get Redbox codes online for free rentals. Just put the code in your local Redbox and receive your DVD rental for free. Check out our weekly freebies section or Freebies for Moms Website for Redbox Codes.

3. Make coffee at home.

This is a simple one but many people still go through the drive thru or Starbucks for their morning pick me up. If you purchase a coffee every day on your way to work, you are spending an average of $2-$3 per day which is about $18 per week. That’s $864 per year on coffee! WOW!  If you start making your coffee at home and/or skip your morning caffeine stop a few times a week, you can really save some cash!

4. Eat less packaged junk food

Junk food is everywhere. It tastes good, it’s addictive, and it’s EASY! It’s also expensive! The good thing is that we don’t need junk food. If you cut down on the amount of junk food you buy and focus on the healthy foods that your body really needs then you will save money and possibly lose some weight at the same time.

5. Round up Your purchases.

What I mean by this is that for every purchase you make, round it up to the next dollar in your check book and pretend that change is not there/has already been spent. For example, let’s say you spend $10. 62 at the grocery store. Instead of deducting $10.62 from your checking account, deduct $11.00 from your account. You will be surprised at the end of the month when you look and see how much you have saved by doing this!
