Frugal Tip: How To Remove Dark Spots on Your Skin At Home

If you have had acne in your younger years or are currently experience the horror that is acne now then you most likely have a few dark spots on your skin that just won’t go away that are driving you crazy every time you look in the mirror. Or is that only me? ;)

In my early teenage years I had a few breakouts then I went years without any breakouts at all. Fast forward to my first pregnancy where acne started creeping back and continued for a long time. Now I’m in my early 30s and I still have an occasional zit or two but what concerns me are these few dark spots on my face. They make me feel self-conscious and I don’t like that feeling at all. So I did some research and learned a few ways to get rid of those dark spots on my face. Being the frugalista that I am, my first option was not really an option because I didn’t want to spend an insane amount of money on office dermatology treatments that weren’t guaranteed to work. Therefore I took it upon myself to then research some at-home remedies to remove those pesky dark spots on my skin.

Here is what I came up with and am using right now. Keep in mind that this may not work for you and it will not produce drastic results but I am seeing some lightening of the spots on my face.

Lemon juice
honey
cane sugar

I have been mixing these 3 ingredients together for the past week and only using once every 3 nights so my skin doesn’t dry out. The sugar exfoliates your skin, the honey softens your skin, and the lemon juice has the lightening properties. Keep in mind however that lemon juice can’t work miracles but it can slightly lighten those blemish scars and spots. I keep the mixture on my face for about 2 minutes then remove it. I then follow up with my normal moisturizer for the night which happens to be an anti-aging one from L’Oreal. I also mix moisturizer+ SPF in with my makeup every single day because the sun can maximize the look of your scars. I also plan on trying over the counter Mederma and Scar Zone both of which can be bought pretty easily through Amazon.

If you try this and it is working for you I’d love to hear about so be sure and share in the comments. If you have a remedy that works for you I’d love to hear that too! If you just want to complain about how much you hate acne scars I’m all ears ;)
