How To Make Homemade Protein Bars + No-Bake Recipe
My husband has been asking me to make homemade protein bars because the store bought ones are not only expensive but contain too many artificial ingredients. We’ve both been working out a lot, and protein bars are a tasty way to get in some extra protein. Did I mention they are chocolate?
A couple of days ago I made my first batch of homemade protein bars. I made the easy no-bake version. They were a hit with my soon to be 11 year old son and my husband. They were not a hit with me. Something about them were lacking. Today I altered my recipe slightly and this time the protein bars tasted much better. Below you will read how to make homemade protein bars that do not require any baking. This recipe is full of chocolate pieces and peanut butter. This is NOT an allergy-friendly recipe but I hope to come up with a recipe for my other son who is allergic to almost everything. While you enjoy this recipe, I’ll be working on that.
Homemade Protein Bars No-Bake Recipe:
Ingredients You Need:
1 cup of uncooked oats
1 cup of uncooked barley
1/4 cup natural peanut butter
2 scoops of Protein Powder of your choice. We use Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Gold Standard Natural Whey, Natural Chocolate You can but it on Amazon.
30 semi-sweet chocolate chips (yes, I counted them out)
1/4 cup rice milk (this sweetens the bars)
1/4 cup marshmallows
2 tablespoons of crushed almonds
How To Make Homemade Protein Bars:
1. Mix together the barley, oats, and protein powder.
2. Mix in the rice milk and peanut butter until the ingredients are fully mixed together.
3. Stir in the remaining ingredients (chocolate chips. almonds, and marshmallows). If you don’t like marshmallows just omit them.
4. Pour mixture onto wax paper and flatten it as evenly as you can get it. I put the wax paper on a plate or pan so I can easily transfer it to the freezer.
5. Put the mixture in the freezer for 30-45 minutes.
6. Once the bars have set then take them out of the freezer and cut them up into 8 even bars.
7. Eat and enjoy. Remember to put the remaining bars in the refrigerator.
Total Calories: 144 per bar
Total Protein Grams Per Bar: about 9 grams
