back to school suppliesContest For Moms is the leading place online for mom contests & sweepstakes & mom information. However, we are more than just contests! We also have lots of other information. We hope you will stick around!  Back To School Information & Tips

My son's first day of Kindergarten is coming up soon. This will be a day of firsts, fun, and sure enough some anxiety! Many children, like mine, express fear and anxiety about going to school specifically Kindergarten since this is the formal beginning of school and it's all new to them. Children feel this way because they are experiencing a new situation, a new schedule, and many different things all at once.

Although Kindergarten will be fun for them, it will also be frightening for young children especially if they have never attended daycare or preschool. This is okay and expected. To make your child's first day of school enjoyable and to ease some of the anxiety think about doing something special for him or her.

Here are some ideas on how to make the first day of Kindergarten a fun experience for your child.

Let Your child pick out his or her favorite new outfit to wear on the first day of school

Have a back to school party the day before school starts

Pack your child's favorite lunch

Let your child take a favorite toy with him or her to school for comfort

Take a picture of your child on the first day of school

Reassure your child that you will be back to pick him or her up at the end of the day

Get your child into  a back to school routine at least 1-2 weeks prior to school starting. This will make the transition easier

Give your child some kindergarten-like structured activities to do each day a week before school starts

Take your child on a fun shopping trip and let your child pick out the clothes, backpack, lunchbox, supplies, and more! This will make school beginnings more fun!
